Wen Qing Doctors Up and Doesn't Do the Core Transfer AU

I've had this fic idea in my head for FOREVER about Wen Ning, fresh off his rebellious adventure to the recently-occupied Lotus Pier, absolutely going off on Wen Qing for her even CONTEMPLATING doing the Golden Core Transfer.

"Jie, that is a traumatized teenager. He cannot give consent. The other patient is an UNCONCIOUS traumatized teenager, who can ALSO not give consent. Do not commit malpractice. Don't do it. I am begging you."

"Jie, are you a doctor or a researcher b/c you aren't acting much like a doctor right now, you're acting like Wen Ruohan."

"Jie, you have always been the smartest person I know, and now you are letting second smartest person I know - who is also Very Dumb - convince to do a thing that you don't even think is possible because he thinks it's the only way to save his brother who is understandably IN SHOCK and recovering. Give it like two weeks and think about this, I am on my knees."

"Jie, I know Wei-xiong has convinced you that you parallel with him and me with Jiang Cheng but I'm imploring you to reconsider that you are actually Jiang Yanli in this situation."

It's the mention of Jiang Yanli that gets her. Wen Qing is like, "oh shit, you right, I am the older sister of two dumbasses and I almost let Dumbass #2 convince to do something Absolutely Idiotic. I need to talk to Jiang Yanli who is immune to Wei Wuxian's stupidity about all of this."

(Yanli isn't immune, but Wen Qing doesn't know that. Yet.)

The story changes, and it's still difficult, but there are fewer secrets and also Wei Wuxian Must Accept Help because it's his beloved shijie asking him to with Those Eyes. He folds before it even becomes a problem.

(NASA announcer voice) Aaaand we have soundtrack. I thought Luke Atmey's and Furio Tigre's themes both suited Jin Ling pretty well. Other contenders before I decided on Moderato 2004 were Allegro 2002 and Investigation - Middle 2002.

Arranged marriage zhuiling AU where instead of being arranged to marry each other, Jiang Cheng keeps trying to set Jin Ling up with random girls from other clans after Jin Ling mentions he’s interested in marrying ‘someone’ because he doesn’t know Jin Ling meant Lan Sizhui, so Jin Ling keeps doing the most ridiculously annoying and unappealing things to scare off every girl who comes to Koi Tower and Jiang Cheng is ripping his hair out because you little brat, you said you wanted to get married???

Eventually, both of them are so exhausted from the miscommunication that Jiang Cheng investigates and finally finds out what’s wrong, then tells Jin Ling he has one more potential spouse for him to meet. Jin Ling is a pouting lackluster mess over it until his entire world stops when the doors to Koi Tower open and Lan Sizhui walks through.

Okay, I also have a scene - not fic, not plot, just scene - in my head of the Junior Quartet trying on Liusan's glasses like "Wow everything's so blurry!" And he's like "Yeah, I'm nearsighted and these correct my vision to normal. Like right now you're all just blobs of color to me. (1) Huaqing

I had zero thoughts about this (except for my general cattiness about ships where people just replace the characters' personalities and dynamic with the main pairing's in order for them to work) until @veliseraptor sent me a prompt about them and then i sort of lost my shit. I think a couple of things that get me about them are that they have these moments where if you inverted the colors, their relationship could have turned out totally differently: they're both skilled with a saber, they're both picked out especially by Xie Lian (compare Feng Xin who was assigned to Xie Lian), they both are outsiders to the privileged, polished existence that Xie Lian and, to a lesser extent, Feng Xin grew up in. There is a world in which Hua Cheng doesn't run away after the parade and he gets adopted into the Clown Trio and learns from Mu Qing (I wrote half this fic on Twitter before i deleted my account :') ...i think i still have it saved somewhere).

That isn't the world we see in canon (which already opens up a lot of fun questions), but even in canon, there's a history there—of Hua Cheng hating Mu Qing especially, of their oppositional orbit around Xie Lian, of the fact that Hua Cheng could have ruined Mu Qing (and Feng Xin) too if Mu Qing had only taken up the same challenge as the other 33 gods. Any time you have history that you don't get to see onscreen (or only get to see parts of), imo, it creates a frame with an open warp where you get to start weaving in your own ideas for the missing pieces, which is exactly where the best ground for fanfic is

idk if there's much i can say about my feelings about JC that isn't already in the fics i've written (and the many additional wips stuck in my folders), but I think the ultimate thing that always gets me is just. god. he loves his brother so much. there is no story without that love. there is no wangxian. there is no jin rulan. there is nothing without that love. And he is so angry at his brother. and it's fair and it's not and he did all he could and he didn't do enough and there is no flagellation you can throw at him that he hasn't taken to his own back and he was a child and it doesn't matter. but he loves his brother and he has been so angry for so long

Jaws Under Hydra

Summary: [JAWS AU] This ask was hiding from me, I swear! But it's here now *finger guns*. Anteeways, this is a pretty important cornerstone of Jaws life, to get a bit more on what they were like before they met earth's mightiest heroes and before they met they're redheaded paramour, so I figure I'd give it a proper heading y'know? But onward and upward!

Warning(s): Dark Themes; Mention of brainwashing, psychological conditioning/abuse, out of body experiences, and cannibalism (this is past jaws we're talking about here). Other than the obvious, if you think about the shit that goes on here for too long, its pretty angsty bud...

I spoke briefly about Jaws' life under HYDRA in the very first part of the JAWS AU, but let's see here...

Jaws' life under HYDRA was a lonely one to say the least. They were basically alone and in pain for the first half a year post-first procedure while they got used to the adamantium coating their skull. We're talking consistent headaches and migraines. Like the pulsing in your face and teeth when you have a sinus infection but dialed up to eleven.

That being said, Jaws' life as a subject of HYDRA was still a lot better than a lot of others we know and are familiar with. They were fed regularly, had decent clothes, got a small semblance of an education (granted it was highly biased in favor of what HYDRA wanted Jaws to know and learn)... essentially the bare minimum. This is in part due to two factors: how young Jaws was when they were captured and brought into the facility, and also who was in charge of them. That being Doctor Faustus.

Johann Fennhoff didn't need to use torture or physical abuse to get Jaws under his thumb, even with their explosive temper. He was better versed in psychological warfare, and simply used methods of mental manipulation to condition Jaws to be complacent in following his instruction... with mixed results.

It was easier to control Jaws when they were younger and more impressionable. They were always a bit hardheaded, but they listened better. much like Bucky when he was under HYDRA, Faustus used activation words and repeated phrases to cooperate. As Jaws got older and eventually became an adult, simple hypnosis wasn't effective anymore and Faustus had to progress to using hallucinogens that were more and more potent. This worked better, but they made Jaws more irritable on the come down.

The final form of Faustus' hallucinogenic gas was one that left Jaws vulnerable to hypnotic suggestion. Same methodology as the old stuff, but stronger and more refined than the new stuff. Jaws wasn't fully aware of what was happening around them when the chemical invaded their system, but the rage fueled by the fear that gripped them when the foreign substance started to flush out of their system was not a pleasant experience.

Whether Jaws realized it or not, the longer they were exposed to the hallucinogen, the more they were growing immune to it's effects, which led to the break in control at the beginning of the JAWS AU when the Avengers encountered the tiger shark mutant.

Faustus kept Jaws in isolation the majority of the time while they were in the HYDRA facility. The most they got to see of the other agents and experiments was during missions, since even Jaws' trainings were privatized. In a lot of ways, Jaws was Faustus' cash cow; they got the job done efficiently, and at that moment in time, Jaws was satisfied with having their bloodlust satiated being their reward for a successful mission.

It was also Doctor Faustus that pushed Jaws to commit cannibalism while they were still young. Jaws was well fed compared to other subjects under the Asphalt facility because unfortunately disposable people are in no short supply among HYDRA. Be they failed subjects or experiments or hostages that had outlived their usefulness. For better or worse, Jaws didn't have any real moral hang ups about that until they left HYDRA.

It's fair to say that Jaws became a bit of a glutton during their time under HYDRA. The promise that they could inflict pain was their main motivating factor (their general distaste toward human beings was cultivated more into hatred as the years went by). Getting their lunch on top of it was just a bonus, really.

Jaws has always been averse to being around people for extended periods of time and was easily provoked, so they preferred to be alone to float in their saltwater tank most of the time.

Just alone with their thoughts. The water sloshing around them... in their soundproofed tank... with their eyes closed.

The few people that Jaws interacted with consistently were the scientists responsible for surveilling the mutant and reporting behaviors back to Doctor Faustus.

They were around a lot more when Jaws was just a kid and they were basically glorified babysitters, but as Jaws got older, they were stand-ins for guards/therapists/parental figures/friends/ whatever Faustus needed them to be for his haifisch to progress as he wanted.

Jaws didn't have many personal belongings and had virtually no sense of self when they were fully sentient. They functioned solely off of the pursuit of survival, and because Jaws wasn't around people long enough to care about them, they were a million times more apathetic than we're more familiar with them being in current days. It was less from a place of "I don't care what you have to say, I'm gonna do what I want" and more so "Meat sacks shouldn't talk so much."

I can't say that Jaws forged any meaningful connections while under the New York Asphalt facility, and they weren't fully aware of what was going on around them half of the time. It was a blurred cycle of sleeping, killing, testing and improvements over and over again.

I think the culture shock Jaws had after leaving HYDRA should be studied actually. Jaws didn't have too much of a clue what was out there in the world (having only faint memories of their life back on Enoka as an infant at this point), but there had to be a latent yearning for more than what their life was for them to actually try and adjust to "normal" society after being freed.
